Are you intimidated by using separate/free-standing strobes in your photography? Sign up for a 1-hour, one-on-one class with Jason at the Studio and learn the basics of setting up studio for a photo shoot using strobes!
(If you are familiar with studio lighting, we can go in to more detail.)
Together we will go over from scratch and hands-on:

• Seamless Paper Backdrops
Setting up and working with paper backdrops, including floor coverage, spacing, and common mistakes to avoid.
• Understanding Studio Lighting Equipment
Hands-on use of studio strobes and continuous lights, including attaching lights to stands, using softboxes and other modifiers, and safely connecting power and triggers.
• Controlling and Adjusting Studio Strobes
How to adjust power, positioning, and modifiers to shape light intentionally rather than guessing.
• Triggering and Camera Setup
Setting up your camera to work with studio lighting using wireless triggers, as well as understanding alternative triggering methods such as optical (slave) mode.
• Single-Light vs. Multi-Light Setups
Learning when one light is enough, when additional lights help, and how to build complexity without losing control of the image.
• Light Control & Shaping Techniques
Using feathering, reflectors (including eyelighters), and positioning to control contrast, spill, and direction of light.
• Using Booms and Advanced Positioning
When and why to use a boom arm, and how to do so safely and effectively.
• Continuous LED Lighting & Creative Spotlight Effects
Introduction to using continuous LED lights, including spotlight techniques with gobos and gels to shape light, add texture, and introduce controlled color for more creative looks.
• Studio Safety & Best Practices
Basic safety considerations when working with stands, power, modifiers, and moving equipment in a studio setting.
• Tethered Shooting Workflow
Overview of tethered shooting, including why tethering matters in studio work and how it can improve efficiency, collaboration, and overall shooting workflow.
We’ll explore and shoot as much as you need in that hour until you are comfortable with using studio lighting. Bring a friend as a model or you can photograph Jason.
