Looking your best in front of the camera starts with a little prep. Here’s everything you need to know before your headshot session at Fourth Wall Photo Studio.
✅ General Clothing Tips (for ALL headshots)
• Stick to solid colors—patterns, stripes, and logos can distract. Please avoid wearing mid to dark grey.
• Fit matters: Avoid baggy or overly tight clothing.
• Layers work great: Blazers, cardigans, and jackets create structure.
• Bring clothes on a hanger and wrinkle-free – I have a z-rack you can hang your clothes on.
• Choose a neckline that flatters your face (V-necks, crew necks, and collars are all good options).
👔 Business, Corporate, or Professional Headshots
For Men: Fitted button-down shirt (blue, lighter gray (please no dark grey), or white). Blazer or sport coat in a solid neutral. Tie optional—wear it if your field is formal.
For Women: Tailored blouse or top in a rich tone. Fitted jacket or structured blazer. Keep jewelry simple: think minimal earrings or a small necklace.
Best Colors: Navy, charcoal, olive, burgundy, or teal. Avoid bright white unless layered; skip neons or anything reflective.
😎 Casual or Personal Branding Headshots
Perfect for creatives, small business owners, and those wanting a relaxed, friendly vibe.
• Wear stylish layers: denim jackets, cardigans, henleys.
• Add texture (knit, chambray, corduroy)—not patterns.
• Choose colors that align with your personal brand. Please avoid wearing mid to dark grey.
• Keep accessories minimal.
🎭 Actor Headshots
These should be clean, versatile, and focused on you—not your outfit.
• Wear solid-colored tops (fitted tees, V-necks, crew necks).
• Jewel tones work great; avoid white and flashy colors. Please avoid wearing mid to dark grey.
• No jewelry—keep the focus on your eyes and expression.
• Bring 2–3 tops to get a variety of looks (remember – $25 per change of clothing for 6 images with each change/look).
🎨 Dress for Your Skin Tone
Fair/Light Skin: Avoid pastels or beige—try navy, emerald, or wine.
Medium/Olive Skin: Earth tones and jewel colors work beautifully.
Dark Skin: Bold colors shine—royal blue, fuchsia, forest green, or crisp white all stand out well.
💇 Hair
• Arrive with clean, styled, and neatly brushed hair.
• Use light product to manage flyaways and frizz if needed (I cannot edit flyaways out).
• Men: Shave or groom facial hair exactly how you want to appear in the final photo.
💄 Makeup
• Keep it natural and matte—shine and heavy powder don’t photograph well.
• Do not wear shiny lip-gloss or lipstick—this will result in a reflective shine that cannot be fixed.
• Use makeup to enhance features, not mask them.
• Avoid glossy or sparkly finishes; matte foundation or setting powder is best.
• Men: Consider using a light translucent powder to reduce shine—ask someone you trust for honest feedback.
🧘 Final Tips
• Sleep well the night before—tired eyes show.
• Hydrate and moisturize so your skin looks healthy and plump.
• Don’t worry about posing! We’ll guide you through every shot.
• On the day of your shoot: Relax. Breathe. Smile. You’re in good hands.
